The Knicks Get An Agent?

It was reported by Woj and other sources that the New York Knicks plan on hiring Leon Rose to become their next team president. This is not what Knick fans were expecting to say the least.

As I wrote earlier in the week, I fully expected James Dolan to go with an established front office executive to fill this role, but instead he went the opposite route. Rose is a big time player agent with CAA, New York Met fans should be familiar with the firm. The move signals to me that the Knicks do not want to do a slow rebuild and develop draft picks. You hire an agent for this role to attract stars. So, despite striking out time and time again on stars, the Knicks are not done trying yet.

It should be noted, that the Warriors and Lakers are both run by former player agents and they typically have not signed former clients. This point was originally brought up by Woj today; it’s all well and good but it is clearly the plan to me.

We have to take a wait and see approach with this planned hire by the Knicks. Rose has simply never done this job before and it would be unfair to assume he will fail.

The Knicks also traded Marcus Morris to the Clippers today for Moe Harkless and a 2020 first round pick. The Clippers also acquired Isiah Thomas in the same deal from the Wizards.
