Earlier this week, the NFL announced that Colin Kaepernick will be hosting a workout and interviews for any NFL team Saturday. The league released the teams that have confirmed they will be attendance, which include Arizona, Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Denver, Miami, Tampa Bay, the Jets, the Giants, New England, and the Redskins. Seattle will also reportedly be in attendance but were not specifically mentioned by the NFL.
The big question now is, so what? After all the time away from the game, I think it would be foolish to think that Colin can just rejoin the league and become a starter again. If Kaepernick accepts a backup role, then I do think there is a spot for him on an NFL roster; something he was not willing to do in the past. One thing to remember is, I’m sure we will all get alerts like “Kaepernick impresses in workouts;” well shit he better, he is throwing in shorts and a tee shirt!
When looking at the teams that are going to the workout, I would put Arizona as the favorite to sign him. The offense the Cardinals run is probably best for a backup with Kaepernick’s skill set. With that being said, he is definitely better than all of the Jets’ backups. John Elway can’t pick a QB to save his life, so maybe the Broncos are realistic. Miami is a possibility, but I would imagine they much prefer to have someone with more league experience to tutor the QB they will take in the next draft than Kaepernick.
Every time his name is mentioned, someone always has something to say. I hope the next time we bring up his name, it is to celebrate him making an NFL roster.
