Happy Day For Melo

It is finally here. After a year of waiting, it finally happened. No, it is not the release of Disney+, but the return of Carmelo Anthony to the NBA. While the Browns were busy assaulting the Steeler players on Thursday night football, Woj broke the news that the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with the ten time all-star.

It has been a long road back to the NBA for Melo; a journey to truly test his love for the game. People said he was washed up, present company included, and that he is arrogantly refusing to accept a smaller role to help a team. Despite all that, it has always made sense to me for the Blazers to sign him. Think of all the wings Portland has had in the past. If the only players you can think of are Brandon Roy and Clyde Drexler, it says all you need to know.

Earlier this season, the Blazers’ young power forward, Zach Collins went down with an injury and presumably opened up this spot for Melo due to the lack of depth on the roster, both on the wings and the power forward position. Mario Hezonja, Kent Bazemore, and Nassir Little dimly aren’t better than Carmelo Anthony.

Say what you will about Carmelo Anthony, he is one of the best scorers to ever play this game. The Blazers made a good decision with no risk attached to it with signing Melo. The next date to watch for is January 7, the day his contract becomes guaranteed if he is still on the roster.
