They said he was too skinny. They said he should have been a running back. They said he should have been a wide receiver. He told them he should be a quarterback. Lamar Jackson’s young career has had its fair share of criticism from some, but there is no denying that Lamar Jackson is continuing to prove them all wrong. Tonight, another step in doing so as he was named the 2019-2020 NFL MVP; winning the ward unanimously! Lamar is the second to win the award unanimously.
It might surprise some, but The End of the Bench does not get a vote on NFL awards, but you won’t find any agruments from us on this one. Jackson was the most electrifying player in football this year. He was the best player on the best regular season team. At times, it was said he looked like a video game player. I play Madden quite frequently; you can’t make a player like him if you tried. This season, Lamar accumulated 3,127 passing yards, throwing for 36 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. He led the league in touchdown percentage, which measures how many of his throws counted for touchdowns, at nearly 9% and led the league in QBR. The passing numbers are great, however, we have definitely seen better passing statistics in recent seasons.
There is a reason why people thought and still do think that Lamar would be a phenomenl running back. He ranked sixth in total rushing yards this year with 1,206 yards, he was 25 yards shy of being in the top 5. Crazy! He averaged 80.4 rushing yards a game which put him a tie for eighth in that category this year. The mixture of Lamar’s top passing statistics and cracking the top 10 of categories that are geared for other positions made this award an easy decision.
Congratulations Lamar Jackson and keep proving the haters wrong!
