The Jets Ring The Bell

How we doing New York football fans?! Giants fans, not so well; while Jet fans probably think they are living in a dream. The Giants traded Odell Tuesday night and the Jets signed the top running back and offensive playmaker on the market, Le’veon Bell. The Giants are dismantling and the Jets are aggressively spending their money on players in their prime.

The four year contract is worth 52.5 million, with a maximum value of $61 million according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, $35 million of which is guaranteed. Just one year ago, Todd Gurley signed a contract that contains $45 million in guarantees. I thought it was safe to say that would be the starting point in any discussions Bell entertained. If you ask me, it appears we got a little discount; maybe because he sat out last year and his past drug program transgressions.

Almost regardless of how much money it took, the Jets could not afford to let Le’veon Bell sign with a different team. They needed to get Sam Darnold a real weapon and safety valve out of the backfield. Before Bell, the Jets had a bunch of guys at the playmaking positions, now they have a flat out stud. The Jets are starting to get things right and fans finally have a reason to be truly optimistic about their team. Sorry Giant fans, the Jets just may be taking over.
